King Eddy Road Cleanup

Twelve members of the Vernon ATV Club rounded up 1260kg of garbage that took 3 trucks and 2 trailers to transport to the dump. We also retrieved a burnt up trailer that had been dumped over the side of one of the switchbacks, the trailer went separately to metal recycling.

The morning started off with light rain but the day cleared up as we worked and turned out to be a pretty nice afternoon. Garbage was collected from the bottom of King Eddy Road up to 7km then we jumped to the Bear Lake and Aberdeen Lake Rec sites where we picked up a number of TVs, mattresses and random junk.

The final tally amongst the 1260kg taken to the landfill included:

  • 5 TVs
  • 11 mattresses
  • couches and chairs
  • hundreds of shotgun shells
  • lots of broken bottles and smushed cans
  • much stunky and gross stuff
  • one suspicious timbits box

Full Moon Long Weekend Campout

Join us at the sort yard on King Eddy Road for the May long weekend. Everyone is welcome, members and non-members – so if you enjoy ATV, UTVing come out to meet some like-minded folks and have fun.

The sort yard is the gate to the left of the cattleguard, watch for the yellow ATV sign pointing the way. The gate opens at 3:00pm on Friday afternoon for campers to arrive and start setting up then hang out around the campfire in the evening.

Saturday morning is when the fun starts with a cleanup along King Eddy Road. Bring your ATV, UTV or truck as we head up the road gathering all the stuff people have discarded. We’ll need a couple of trucks for transporting the garbage to the landfill. If we get done before evening we may squeak a ride in.

Saturday afternoon there is a BBQ, it’s free for cleanup volunteers and $5 per person for everyone else. You’ll find burgers, chips & dip, salad, veggies and drinks. The BBQ will be followed by a meeting to catch everyone up on club activities.

Sunday morning is ride time, join us as we head up onto the Aberdeen plateau for some riding.
