GPS Trail Mapping
Sunday, June 27, 2010 - 9:00 am
The goal of this ride is to GPS as many existing trails as possible, THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE A FUN RIDE. The GPS maps we produce will be provided to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and
the Arts as part of our Event Permit application for the AGM &
Jamboree.
Park on the side of the road at the bottom of King Eddy FSR, we’ll start riding at 9:00am then head up to a central location on the plateau where we’ll break out the maps and assign “GPS blocks” to each rider. Each rider will head out and GPS all the trails in their block then meet back at the central location where the GPS tracks will be downloaded and analyzed to determine what areas still need to be covered, then head out again.
If you’re interested in helping you will need:
- GPS which can connect to a computer to download tracks, Garmin preferred but other brands may work
- GPS to computer connection cable (we will bring the standard GPS to USB cable but bring your cable just in case)
- Extra batteries and/or the power cable for your GPS
- Backroad Mapbook
- Extra fuel
- Radio if you have one, we will plan on meeting at the central location every 2 hours so a radio is not critical.
We intend to be mapping trails the entire day. We would appreciate your help, even an hour or two will help cover the ground. Please email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you’re planning to attend so we have enough maps for everyone. If you’re able to help but can’t start at 9:00am we will arrange for a second start time. Members without a GPS are welcome to attend this ride, but remember the priority is mapping not having fun so you’ll need to keep up with the mappers.
Ride Length: All day

Thanks to everyone who came out to help map the trails. In addition to mapping our existing trails we found and mapped a bunch of trails to the south, including an interesting loop south of Doreen Lake that followed the road past a number of other lakes.
