Mara Mountain Lookout
Saturday, August 29, 2009 - 9:00 am
A planned club ride to Mara Lookout on the last weekend of August 2009, we had a great time. Four quads and five riders made a nice team and we were in for some surprises with rock crawling and mountain climbing.
The trail is well marked and the views of alpine meadows and wet bogs made this an eco wonderland. As we got closer to the mountain terrain, the trail was made of small to large boulders, but this never slowed us down except to stop and look at the spectacular views.
When we finally reached our destination, the view was breathtaking, on one side you could see the Monashee mountain range reaching to the north, and all you had to do was turn around to see Askom Mountain Range to the West, or the Mighty Rockies to the East. You could also see Mabel Lake and Mara Lake, along with a small glacier close by.
We had lunch at 2200m above sea level at the old Fire lookout perched at our destination, and then packed up and headed back down. Now going up is one thing, coming down is a whole new game plan, as you can see how far down it is now. A whole new ride begins.
We all arrived safe and sound, and were home for supper. What a great ride. I give it an 8 out of 10.
